Nathan Healy Wins the StatSheet SoCon Player of the Week - January 21st, 2013

StatSheet's SoCon Player of the Week for January 21st goes to Nathan Healy. StatSheet's SoCon Freshman of the Week goes to Tim Williams from Samford. Finally, Dontay Hampton from Chattanooga has won StatSheet's SoCon 6th Man of the Week. Healy registered big numbers in shooting (50%), rebounding (8 per game), and scoring (19 pts per game). The Appalachian State senior played well for the Mountaineers in a win against North Carolina-Greensboro and losses to Chattanooga and Samford.

Healy led the Mountaineers in scoring and rebounding with 24 points and 9 rebounds in an 83-70 win against North Carolina-Greensboro. He followed that up with a team-leading 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 91-88 loss to Chattanooga. Finally, Healy put up 11 points and 2 assists, closing out the week with a 72-68 loss to Samford.

This is the second time this season that Nathan Healy has been selected StatSheet SoCon Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is junior Lucas Troutman from Elon. Honorable mention goes to Adjehi Baru, a sophomore from College of Charleston.

StatSheet SoCon Freshman of the Week: Samford's Tim Williams

Tim Williams was on the floor an average of 35 minutes starting both games for Samford. His average in rebounding (7.5 per game) topped all SoCon freshmen. In a late 64-60 win over Western Carolina, Williams led all scoring and rebounding for the Bulldogs with 16 and 10 respectively. Then in a thin 72-68 win over Appalachian State, he dialed up 13 points and 5 rebounds.

This is the second time for Tim Williams, who won the StatSheet SoCon Freshman of the Week earlier this season. Clide Geffrard Jr. from Samford grabs runner-up. Gee McGhee from Chattanooga receives honorable mention. Michael Obacha was the highest ranking freshman from Appalachian State and finished 5th.

StatSheet SoCon 6th Man of the Week: Chattanooga's Dontay Hampton

Dontay Hampton, a 6-1 Senior guard, played an average of 25 minutes over two games for the Mocs. In a close 91-88 win over Appalachian State, Hampton put up 22 points on 54% shooting. During a 90-81 loss to Western Carolina, he racked up 9 points and 6 rebounds.

This is the first StatSheet SoCon 6th Man of the Week award for Dontay Hampton. Trent Wiedeman, a junior forward from College of Charleston, is the runner up. Marvin Baynham, a junior forward from Georgia Southern, receives honorable mention. Including this week, Appalachian State has 2 StatSheet SoCon Player of the Week wins this season.
